New EU Airport Security Rules

Beginning on 6 November 2006 new airport security rules that limit the amount of liquids that can be brought on board airplanes went into effect. These new rules apply to all passengers leaving from airports in the EU, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland, no matter the final destination. These rules apply to carry on luggage only and do not affect checked in baggage, liquids purchased beyond security control and/or on aircraft.

Only liquids in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each are allowed in carry on luggage. Containers must be packed in one see-through, re-sealable plastic bag. One plastic bag per passenger and the plastic bag cannot be bigger than one litre in capacity.

What it all means is that it is advisable to pack most if not all your liquids in your check in luggage. There is also the possibly of taking a little longer to pass through security check points. Many airports (at least in the beginning) are supplying the plastic bags needed.
